Montessori Classrooms
For ages 15 months to 3 years
“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences. A well-prepared environment with engaging materials motivates children to independently pursue their interests, fostering a love for learning and self-discovery.”
Maria Montessori
Everything in a Montessori classroom serves a purpose.
For all of our classrooms, you can expect materials:
Made of safe & natural materials
Such as wood and cloth. This means no potential for recalls or exposure to harmful paint, lead, formaldehyde off-gassing, BPA or phthalates.
Celebrate diversity
Through the use of materials representing different cultures, ethnicities and abilities. This helps foster an attitude of respect and an understanding of each other’s differences.
Encourage skill development
In the areas of: practical life, math, language (including sign language & Spanish), science, geography/cultural studies, history, art, music, perceptual motor development, and consumer/career education.
Encourage logical academic development
By encouraging students to use pre-reading and pre-writing skills, they develop a logical progression of academics.
A Healthy, Safe & Comforting Environment
All classrooms feature handmade, oak shelving finished in a non-toxic, child safe finish and assembled using a non-toxic, food-grade glue. The cribs are also made of solid wood with plexiglass end panels for safety – limiting the use of any particle board based materials that can emit harmful formaldehyde and also help provide a warm home-like atmosphere.
Paint colors throughout the building have been selected to be tranquil and soothing – research indicates bright colors can over stimulate children, making it difficult to focus.
Realistic and age-appropriate artwork is displayed to provide the best learning environment for the children we’re privileged to work with.
Indoor air quality is improved through the use of non-toxic, air filtering plants throughout the facility.
